Horrible Terrible Vegetable
In a lively Singaporean HDB estate, a community garden managed by children from diverse backgrounds becomes the center of an unexpected mystery. The kids discover a strange vegetable, humorously dubbed the "Horrible Terrible Vegetable," due to its odd appearance and smell. Simultaneously, news of a riot abroad sparks racial and religious tensions within the estate, leading to widespread suspicion and rumors about the mysterious vegetable. Influenced by their parents' anxieties, the children start to believe the vegetable might be dangerous. Three friends — Ali, Mei Ling, and Ravi — decide to investigate the origins of the "Horrible Terrible Vegetable." Their search leads them to Mr. Tan, an elderly neighbor, who reveals that the vegetable is a unique heirloom gourd from his hometown, planted accidentally as a gift to the community. Realizing the vegetable is harmless and meant to share cultural heritage, the kids organize a potluck event. They encourage each family to bring a dish representing their cultural background, with the highlight being a special dish prepared using the "Horrible Terrible Vegetable." The potluck is a resounding success, as residents come together to share their recipes and cultural stories. The once-feared vegetable transforms into a symbol of unity, celebrating the community's shared heritage and mutual respect. The children and their neighbors learn that understanding and cooperation are essential for maintaining social cohesion, turning the community garden into a place of unity and celebration.
