James Tan runs a failing pop-culture magazine with his team of geek-culture obsessed writers, Wesley, Dinesh, and Linus. Feeling a lack of female representation, James decides to hire a new writer, Regina. Dinesh, their resident opinion columnist is firmly opposed to this move while Wesley prepares for a stressful pitch.

Meanwhile, Linus struggles to finish a retro video game from the early 1990s.
