"Women migrate for diverse reasons: leaving behind poverty, conflict and disasters, escaping gender inequalities and violence, in pursuit of a better life for themselves and their families. Migrant women are often agents of change: Leaders who contribute in multiple ways to their countries of origin, transit and destination. They bring diverse talent and expertise and send money back to their families and communities, allowing economies to thrive. Despite their valuable contributions, migrants face pervasive, intersecting forms of discrimination that impact their well-being and safety at all stages of their journeys. Migration impacts women and men differently. Yet, the specific experiences of migrant women are rarely reflected in migration laws and policies. (source: unwomen.org)"
