QQ is the child of a single mother. Although her mother does everything in her power to give QQ a good life, she is ungrateful, and chooses to work nights to be away from home. Eventually she runs away from home, in an attempt to escape her mother's remarriage.

Jay is a 30 year old man with no career, no money, no future. What he does have is heart disease, and a lot of debt. Knowing that his death is approaching, he wants to fulfil his wish of going to Lan Yu and seeing a flying fish.

Ching is a conservative man who runs a traditional barbershop. While he is unrelated to Jay, they treat each other like brothers.

When QQ runs away from home, she ends up in Ching's barbershop with Jay, and has an uncomfortable dinner with them. She begins to live with them, and slowly, but surely, the trio grow into a semblance of family.

However, as Jay's deadline approaches, QQ will find herself growing and transforming in ways she never expected, and soon, she will walk into their house for the last time.
