The Ihans are iconic fish playing an important role in the rituals of Batak culture. The Ihans or Batak fish scientifically consist of two genera, Neolissochilus and Tor. These iconic animals of Toba are among the vulnerable species according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Hence scientific management is needed to prevent something worse from happening to these animals.
