Scene City S6: Not Today
A furniture restorer, Ah Lim, cares for his Alzheimer's-stricken wife, Monica, and refuses to replace their marital bed with a "Smart hospital bed," causing tension with his son Ah Min. Years later, Ah Min, now bedridden and lonely, calls customer service agent Joanne. He keeps insisting that she call him by Ah Min, like how his parents used to address him. He strives for a human connection and reminisces about his parents' loving relationship. Joanne finally reveals herself to be a virtual chat bot but acknowledges his request to address him as Ah Min. The story highlights the value of human connection and the limitations of technology in providing warmth and companionship.
